OVERVUEW:
Straight out of the early 1980s Seattle/Tacoma, Washington's, hard rock scene emerged HAMMER HEAD. They were a hungry, street-smart, hard-working rock outfit that developed its own sound of straight-forward, bone-breaking in-your-face and unapologetic metallic hard rock.
Formed in 1984 by guitarist Greg Martin, bassist Don Cooper, guitarist Tom Cooper, drummer David Fender and vocalist Pete Mainzer.
The combination of the band's unique mix of screaming guitar, wicked bass and drums, and boisterous high-range vocals help to quickly elevate HAMMER HEAD to being one of the area’s premier heavy metal acts. Their live shows would be intense and a sight to behold.
In 1985 HAMMER HEAD’s track “Masters of Frustration" would appear on New Renaissance Records’ “Satan's Revenge” compilation. The inclusion on the compilation records helped to gain the band notoriety outside of their regional area and abroad. They would also issue a 6-song demo cassette to their fan club that same year.
HAMMER HEAD began to work on material for their full-length debut in 1986. The band booked time at Trial Studios in Redmond with engineers Mike Tortorello and Tom Hall. After an intense two weeks in the studio the album “Rock Forever,” was completed. The LP would be self-released in early 1987
After the release of “Rock Forever,” cracks within the band started forming, leading to lineup changes.
At the same time that HAMMER HEAD was having trouble keeping a consistent lineup together, more alternative music, which was to become known as grunge, was starting to take over in the Seattle area, changing the course of the music industry. This seismic shift in the popular music landscape resulted in HAMMER HEAD's official disbandment.
Over the following several years, members of HAMMER HEAD went on to play in other bands. In 2002, the original lineup and past members of HAMMER HEAD reunited; however, this reunion would not last long. And now, over two decades after that brief reunion HAMMER HEAD are in the process of reforming with plans to play some live dates.
