OVERVIEW:
It has been said that Overlord Canada produced one of the rarest heavy metal recordings ever with their 1985 self-titled EP. That is not too difficult to believe knowing how not only unique this band was but also their challenges of the time being a Canadian band far away from where they needed to be to capture the right attention.
However, some interest did come from U.S. labels such as Combat and Metal Blade but the timing was never right it seemed. Eventually, time would pass and Overlord would slip further and further into obscurity, only to be re-discovered years later by collectors around the world with the help of the internet.
Their sound and approach were not typical of the time and certainly would have stood alone. At first, listen one might think the band was one of those many lost in the NWOBHM movement. With their proto-metal sound balancing on the doomier edge like Trouble,
Overlord was certainly a progressive heavy metal band of their time and true to the term "progressive".
